When is a silicone stent the best option?

Not all patients are suitable candidates for surgery. ABTVET silicone stents offer a genuine, clinically supported alternative in the following scenarios:

Patients that can't undergo surgery

Geriatric dogs, dogs with GOLPP, or those with comorbidities that raise anesthetic risk are often not safe candidates for tie-back surgery. The silicone stent reduces the associated risks.

Respiratory emergencies

In the event of a respiratory crisis, every minute counts. The stent can be fitted by your trusted vet in a matter of minutes, bringing the patient out of the emergency without the need to refer them to a surgeon or wait for an operation.

Temporal treatment

To support the airways whilst the progression of the disease or the response to treatment is being assessed. The stent acts as a temporary solution: it is reversible and does not compromise future treatment options.

An alternative to a permanent tracheostomy

A permanent tracheostomy has a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life. The stent offers an alternative that restores airflow, thereby avoiding this irreversible procedure.
